Why he opened Capsule Ryokan?

Being a pioneer of backpacker’s hostels in Japan and the best choice for backpackers travellers in Kyoto for over 9 years, he decided to start something completely new, in other word, something very unique , Japanese and stylish. As the origin of backpacking and backpacker’s hostels is not in Japan , he always wondered what he could do to create Japanese original that later turned out to be a place mixed with Capsule hotel and Ryokan together. When this idea came to his mind, he decided to open the world’s first Capsule Ryokan.

What is Capsule Ryokan?

We integrated the old(ryokan style) and the new(capsule hotel style) aspects of Japanese style sleeping and made it into a new style accommodation. We installed high-tech toilet seat, tatami bedding, high-tech shower room, etc. so your stay will be more comfortable and enjoyable. You can experience it only in Japan ( Japan ’s original) and only in Kyoto (as we are the only place that offers it).

Capsule Ryokan's Ideas

1. Price

We want our price to be affordable for foreign visitor, mostly for backpackers. To keep our prices low, services such as daily maid, bell boys and breakfast etc are not available at this Capsule Ryokan. But with our facilities, we can assure you of the best value for your yen.

2. The Japanese experiences

We think the biggest purpose of the travel is enjoying (and feeling) different culture. So we made our guesthouse mixed with modern Japanese-style and classic Japanese , so that our guests can enjoy Japanese culture during their stay.

3. Location

a.We wanted our location to be within walking distance of the main station. *We know that people don't want to worry about navigating an unfamiliar bus or subway system when they first arrive!

b. We wanted to locate the guesthouse in the quiet & safe area because we know that quietly is the most important thing for guests sleep and safety is indispensable for enjoyable stays. *Capsule Ryokan is located just steps away from Nishi-honganji, a World Heritage site , where is one of the safest & cleanest areas around the Kyoto Station. c. Since about 95% of sight seeing spots are in the north side of Kyoto Station, we located guesthouse in the north side of Kyoto Station for convenience.

4. Cleanliness

We wanted our rooms to be clean and comfortable. (our annexes Tour Club and Budget Inn got the highest ranking for cleanliness by Welcome-Inn-Group's* questionnaire.) *Welcome-Inn is managed by national organization and about 800 guesthouses & budget accommodations belong to the Welcome-Inn.

5. Bed rooms

a. Ryokan Ensuite rooms. A king size Tatami bed with comfortable mattresses will promise you a comfortable sleep. *A double-wall structure also promise you a quiet night and your privacy. * For your convenience, a large storage space is available under the Tatami bed. All en-suite private rooms are air-conditioned and come with the latest facilities such as a stylish capsule shower , a full automatic toilet and a Sharp AQUOS 32 inch LCD TV.

b. Tatami Capsule--We limit the number of capsules to 8 in a room so that guests will have a comfortable and quiet sleep. Every capsule has its own lockable luggage space inside (Because international travelers have big luggages, without the luggage space the room will be unconfortable.).

6. Dining room

We have a cozy common space with a large luggage space and security lockers There is an vending machine, PCs for internet, a small kitchen, etc.

7.Air-conditioning

Kyoto's summer is very hot and Kyoto 's winter is very cold, so we arranged air-con in every rooms. (using for free)

8. For your convenience

W have free Internet Access, Coin operated PC for Skype and printing, Coin Laundry, Refrigerator, Microwave, International Pay phone and Free Tea & Coffee Service.
